In the aftermath of Mardi Gras, under the smiling sun and with bellies full of Shake Sugary, we are having a great time preparing for two upcoming events……
BUSTOPIA is this Saturday, here, in New Orleans. The pink bus is joined by 2 more buses and 1 boxtruck, all beautiful homes, to kick off a new series on sustainability hosted by The Green Project. We have formed a Wagenplatz and now, together, we are creating an event where visitors can learn about the different systems we’ve all built as well as take tours of our different abodes. Everybody has their own personal projects to contribute while also working towards making our group effort happen. It’s super copacetic and sunny. These are fun days. Vegetable oil is constantly being filtered, everybody is tinkering, and food/ideas/wisdom/help is being shared all around. Ray called this happening BUSTOPIA from the start and it pretty much is. We are next door to The Green Project on a grassy spot next to a building that Rev. Willie Wilson owns. He’s having Ray and I come to his television studio tomorrow to be interviewed on his cable t.v. show. Haha, I really don’t know what to expect, but I am thinking it’s going to be pretty fun. I will try to post the footage soon. So, here’s the flyer below, it features Grease Kitty. Pete’s been working away at his goal of drawing 1,000 kitties and we are honored to have one of them as this weekend’s mascot. Ray wanted something to dispel the scariness around the dirty job of running on vegetable oil and he’s never even been to Japan. If you live nearby, come join us this Saturday morning!

Soon after we wrap us BUSTOPIA, we will be be showcasing Comfortable Nomadic OffGrid at the South By Southwest conference in Austin. On March 13th at noon we will be presenting, alongside 10 others, in an event called BUILT by Bike Hugger. It’s sort of like a TED talk. Each person contributes 20 slides and has 5 minutes to talk. Ray, Francois, and myself are working together on this one. Ray is the elected speaker since he has a gift for talking super fast while cramming a lot of information in a small time period, as well as being charming and entertaining all the while. The term “rapid fire” sort of gives me an anxiety attack, but the lineup of BUILT and it’s fast format seems like it’s going to be super cool. Here’s the link for the what everybody’s planning to talk about: http://schedule.sxsw.com/2012/events/event_OE00935 If you’re going to be at SXSW, please stop by for this one!
It’s really awesome that so many people want to learn how to do things differently. Hopefully what we share can help. We all just need to give each other a hand and create our own systems. Yay!
Finally I am about to publish my very first Transit Antenna post! Here it gooooooooooooooeeeesssss…………………….
